15th Annual Artist Teacher Exhibition

I am excited to announce that I will be showing Laundrette at the 15th Annual Artist Teacher Exhibit at Workhouse Arts Center. In fact, my piece has already sold! I want to extend a big thank you to Workhouse Arts Center and Fairfax County Public Schools for supporting the arts in the community.

The Workhouse Arts Center and Fairfax County Public Schools are proud to present Text Messages, a curated exhibition of artwork by over 50 art teachers working in Fairfax County. Text Messages features artwork with words in, on, around, or implied within the works. The exhibition juxtaposes text and imagery, prompting the viewer to consider more than what first meets the eye.

About the Exhibition

For 33 years, the annual National Drawing and Print Competitive Exhibition at Gormley Gallery has provided the community with a glimpse of contemporary artistic practices happening on a national level. Each year an outside juror representing a local museum or arts institution serves as curator for the exhibition, selecting the artworks for the show and awarding a purchase prize to one or more pieces. Those pieces become part of the permanent collection of Notre Dame of Maryland University and are displayed across campus.

About the Juror

Joy Davis is a scholar of African-American and diasporic art, fashion history, and colonial dress, and is the Director and Curator of Waller Gallery, which she created to support artists and scholars of color. This fall she began a new role as Visual Art Director for Baltimore’s Creative Alliance, where she oversees curatorial, film, and resident artist programs. And for the last six years she has been the producer and co-host of Unravel: A Fashion Podcast. She has previously worked at the Walters Art Museum, and at a variety of arts and fashion venues in Baltimore and New York.

An artist-teacher exhibition becomes a diary for many, highlighting 13 years

FAIRFAX, Va. (WDVM) — Teachers across Fairfax County had the opportunity to showcase their work in the 13th annual Artist Teacher Exhibition. Although this year they went digital, some teachers said this was a breath of fresh air during a critical time. 76 art teachers did not let this year’s digital experience stop them from showcasing their work. The art exhibition recognizes the creativity and technical expertise of all participants.
